1.1 Poem: Teenager`s Prayer

Title: ‘A Teenagers Prayer’

Poet: The poem is written by ‘J. Morse’.

Rhyme scheme: The rhyme scheme is abcb’.

Figure of speech: Alliteration, Inversion, Metaphor, Apostrophe

Theme/Central idea:

The poem is the form of a prayer by a teenager. In this poem teenager prays to God to help him to take the right direction in the life.

Teenage is a very important age. It is critical period of life the important decisions regarding life and career are made. In this poem the teenager is confused about the right decisions because he knows that it effects on his life, career and future. It will make his life happy or distressed. He prays to God to make him strong to avoid temptations. After teenager year he will be satisfied when he looks back he had liked the best teenager life with constant support of god.

In this poem the boy asks the moon to give him one or two baskets of moonlight seeds. He wants to sow the seeds of the moonlight along the road from the city to the village. So the whole street will be lit. His father will come home early at night and the dangers on his road will be less. The poem expresses the child's longing to meet his father. The child wants to hear the story from the father. When he comes home early, the father will tell him the story. The boy is filled with love for his father.

In this poem, the poet has given a message to all of us to live. We should avoid negative thoughts and be positive. We must prioritize our own thoughts, respect ourselves, adapt to the circumstances, accept new things, change our habits and ways when necessary, don't ignore our feelings, work with joy, contentment.

 

2.3 Poem: The twins

Central idea/Theme:

The central idea of the poem is the problems faced by the identical twins. All the problems are so exaggerated that they create humorous effect.

This poem is deals with advice given by father to his son. In this poem, a father gives valuable advice to his son to be successful in life. The poet mentions the father who wants his child to be successful in the future, so the father advises the child that if you fulfil certain conditions in life, he can get some favourable success.

 

3.3 Poem: Stopping by woods on a snowy evening

Title:  The title of the poem is ‘Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening’.

Poet: The poem is written by ‘Robert Frost’.

Rhyme scheme: the rhyme scheme of the first three stanza is ‘aaba’.

Figure of speech: Inversion, Alliteration, Personification, Repetition.

Theme/Central idea:

        In this poem, the poet describes an incident in which a traveller on horseback longs to stay in a forest. That time is a winter evening. That small forest is desolate, beautiful, dark and deep. Although the traveller is fascinated by the twilight scene, the various sounds that can be heard, and the wind that blows, even though he wants to stop and enjoy the moment, his duty motivates him to move on.

Theme/Central idea:

In this poem, the narrator advises that we should all look at life as a gift. The narrator understands the importance of being able to walk, hear and see when he sees a lame girl, a deaf boy and a blind boy. In life we have the ability to walk, speak, hear and see, so we should all look at life as a gift.


4.3 Poem: O Captain! My Captain!

Poet: The poem is written by ‘Walt Whitman’.

Theme/Central idea

In this poem, the poet mourns the death of this great leader 'Abraham Lincoln'. The poet says that 'Abraham Lincoln' is the saviour of his nation and they accept him as their hero. The poet is saddened by the demise of this great leader. The battle fought by Abraham Lincoln is called a ship, while Abraham Lincoln is considered the captain of that ship. In the poem, the poet describes the victory in the battle on the one hand, and on the other hand, mourns the loss of the great leader 'Abraham Lincoln'.
